The Student Prince

Hands down, the best tenderloin sandwich in Macomb.

Tenderloin sandwich = Big chunk of pork tenderloin tenderized, breaded and deep fried on a bun with lettuce/tomato/mayo. It’s crispy, tender, tasty, satisfying.

Don’t think you can find these west of the MO.

I am the great niece of Lois Wade who owned the East Student Prince most of its life. My grandfather Lyle McNeil owned the east and west student prince along with his sister, Lois. After she passed away the restaurant was leased out to a man who cared less and the building now stands in disrepair and for sale. It was bittersweet to stumble across this website and see your comment about the mighty SP tenderloin. I will never forget growing up in that place, with a great aunt who was more like a great grandmother. She homemade the majority of everything she served until she became too ill. Thanks for the post, it means a lot!

  2. Maggie,

The day you posted your comment on my blog (thank you so much for that!) I came upon an amazing coincidence. I was reading The Arsonist’s Guide to Writer’s Homes of New England and the narrator’s mother works at a place called The Student Prince. In the book the restaurant is in Springfield, MA and serves German food, but still….I thought the synchronicity was incredible. The author must know of your Student Prince, one would think.

Great to hear from you. Thanks for reading! Thanks for posting! Lovely to get some of the personal back story firsthand.
